Lotus Faux Tortoisehell Top Coffee Table by Muller & Barringer for Kittinger
DESCRIPTION
Iconic Hollywood Regency "Lotus" coffee or cocktail table designed by Theodore Muller and Isabelle Barringer for Kittinger (ca. 1948, USA). Features a surface decorated with an elegant lotus flower medallion inlay of faux tortoise shell, the striking effect is achieved by a spattered paint process, bordered by a black lacquered finish and completed with a gold leaf apron. The original leaf is perfectly aged, subtly revealing the base coat throughout. Supported by a black lacquered Asian-inspired base made up of alternating rectangular wood cut outs pedestal base adding a sculptural quality to the piece. This piece is as versatile as it is aesthetically compelling, blending perfectly with any style of interior from Art Deco to contemporary. It has been newly restored to near mint condition.
Literature: Muller received the Aid Award in 1948 for the coffee table's design.
